James Robbins (he/him) is an MA student in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies working with Michelle Hughes-Miller and a Ph.D. candidate in Applied Medical Anthropology working with Nancy Romero-Daza. He previously earned Bachelor's degrees in Economics, Psychology, and Sociology and a Master's degree in Anthropology. His dissertation research focuses on language access and the experiences of Spanish-speaking Latina/o/e/x/Hispanic individuals seeking abortion care in NYC. He has previously worked or currently works on several interdisciplinary projects on a variety of topics including the experiences of frontline COVID-19 nurses, Amazigh women's equity in argan oil production in Morocco, modality among Mexican and Spanish patients in Spain, and sexual/reproductive health education in the US South. His research passions lie in language access, abortion, intersectionality, reproductive justice, medical interpretation, critical social justice activism, health equity, gender and healthcare, embodiment/emplacement, raciolinguistics, neoliberalism, language and music, and ethnomusicology. James has two cats named Stormie and Ralphie, he plays and teaches violin and piano, and is currently a department rep (for WGSS and Anthro) to Graduate Assistants United.
